Elon Musk, the wealth hoarder who splits his time between ruining companies, destroying democracy, and impregnating women, might have to add “deadbeat dad” to that list. The magnate has allegedly cut back on his support of one of his 14 (that we know about) children and is attempting to keep the child’s mother from speaking out, her representatives claim. The news follows a revelation from one of Musk’s oldest children on Friday that he hasn’t provided her with a penny since 2020.
Musk, a misinformation-spreading billionaire whose self-appointed leadership of the federal government has prompted both chaos and the collapse of a once-successful car company, has spent several of his 53 years on this earth worried over the country’s falling birth rate, and appears to be attempting to reverse the trend on his own. But while many of the pregnancies he has a hand in appear to reach a successful conclusion (including a son announced in late February), things get dicier after that.
According to musician Grimes, who shares three children with Elon Musk, the magnate avoided her efforts to reach him when one of their kids was suffering a medical emergency last month. “He won’t respond to texts call or emails and has skipped every meeting and our child will suffer life long impairment if he doesn’t respond asap,” she said in a since-deleted tweet posted in February. “So I need him to fucking respond and if I have to apply public pressure then I guess that’s where we’re at.”
Grimes’s announcement came just days after conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair alleged that Musk was ghosting her and a five-month-old baby the pair conceived after “he slid into my DMs.” A week after that revelation, St. Clair filed two petitions in Manhattan Court against the Tesla founder, saying he’s only met the child a few times, has never inquired after his wellbeing, and is demanding full custody of the infant.
Musk has admitted that he is the father of the child, referred to as R.S.C. in court filings, St. Clair claims, and has texted her to say, “I want to knock you up again” and “Well, we do have a legion of kids to make” in recent months.
Via a written statement reported by HuffPost, St. Clair attorney Karen Rosenthal alleges that “Elon Musk has financially retaliated against his own child and reduced his financial support substantially and unilaterally,” in reference to R.S.C. “He did this after Ashley was forced to bring this matter to court, when he refused to respond to her many private attempts to resolve this matter without publicity.”
According to a statement shared with People, Musk has also “filed an emergency application to gag Ashley and prevent her from communicating about his actions. The judge denied the emergency nature of the application, even though it is still pending.”
“Ashley is vigorously opposing this application in order to preserve her right to speak-out. All while Mr. Musk fashions himself a first amendment warrior and freely communicates via his owned social media platform,” the statement says, a reference to the investor’s purchase of Twitter, which Musk renamed X.
“Given that Mr. Musk is dedicated to transparency in government, it would be helpful if he administered his own life by the same principles.”
Despite Musk’s alleged filing, “no attorney has opted into the NYSCEF system claiming they represent Mr. Musk,” People quotes Rosenthal as saying. “We don’t have anyone we can properly speak with. It’s unnecessary gamesmanship when there’s an infant involved.” On Friday afternoon, however, HuffPost reported that attorneys for Musk “have finally accepted service of legal documents,” thus allowing the planned custody hearings before New York Supreme Court judge Jeffrey H. Pearlman to move forward.
Meanwhile, Musk’s 20-year-old daughter Vivian Wilson says that she grew up with Musk as an absent parent. “I had not talked to him in months — in months,” she says describing her decision to come out as trans in 2020. Then, after Musk did a podcast in which he said she was “dead — killed by the woke mind virus,” “that was the most cathartic moment of my entire life by far,” Wilson says. She’s been financially independent from the billionaire ever since.
“I’ll see things about him in the news and think, ‘That’s fucking cringe. I should probably post about this and denounce it,’” Wilson says. “But other than that, I don’t give a fuck about him. I really don’t. It’s annoying that people associate me with him.”
