The NFL draft is in just over a month, meaning mock drafts are becoming more and more popular as time goes on. Whether they are smaller mocks with just the top picks or detailed mocks with every pick, they all are interesting to follow to see what the consensus is saying.
That especially applies to the quarterback position, the most important but also most volatile position in football.
Multiple teams still need help at the position, including the Tennessee Titans, the Cleveland Browns, the New York Giants, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. All teams are top candidates to select a quarterback in this year’s NFL draft.

That is exactly what happens in the latest seven-round mock draft from Pro Football Network.
In the first round of the mock draft, the Tennessee Titans select quarterback Cam Ward first overall, while the New York Giants follow up with quarterback Shedeur Sanders third overall.
With the top two guys off the board, that leaves the Browns and Steelers with limited options at the position.
However, later in the first round, the Browns trade up from pick No. 33 to pick No. 29 with the Washington Commanders to select Jaxon Dart, a quarterback out of Ole Miss.
The Steelers follow suit but later in the draft, trading up to pick No. 44 with the Dallas Cowboys in the second round to select Jalen Milroe, a quarterback out of Alabama.
While Ward and Sanders are the top options who seem like potential immediate starters, Dart and Milroe are worse prospects who would be better served as backups to start their careers.
Currently, the Browns have Kenny Pickett as a potential starter while Dart develops, while the Steelers have Mason Rudolph while Milroe develops.
The thought of the Browns trading up for a quarterback is an interesting one, as they could easily take a better one with the second pick in the draft. However, they instead trade up for a QB later in the first and took edge rusher Abdul Carter second overall.
That strategy seems like a good one on paper, as Carter is arguably the best player in the draft, and Dart could work out long-term. However, if Sanders were to develop into a top QB, the team would be kicking themselves, no matter how good Carter turns out.
With free agency winding down and the quarterback options drying up, the NFL draft seems like the best option for teams in need of a quarterback to address the position. It will be interesting to see the rumors about this year’s QB class as the draft approaches.
