Don’t get us wrong—we’re excited for spring. But it’s only natural to feel stuck in a style rut, especially with your footwear. Thankfully, Katie Holmes is coming in hot at the top of a new season with what she does best: a fresh take on a forgotten wardrobe staple. The actor and fashion icon has already made us lust after cropped trench coats and baggy pants this month, and now she’s changing the tide on white flats.

Holmes stepped out in Manhattan on March 19 wearing a cool, simple outfit perfect for a warm early spring day. She tucked a striped button-down into a pair of khaki barrel trousers and accessorized with classic aviators and a green patterned bag—but we’re mostly hung up on those pointed-toe ballet flats that kick the whole thing up a notch. The look’s effortless glamour would disappear if she’d gone for leather loafers or even white sneakers; the flats (an unreleased style from Vivaia called the Flat Pro) walk just the right line between dressy and understated.

While you won’t be able to buy Holmes’s exact pair until next month, we’ve done some shopping and found a similar Vivaia pair, plus a lookalike that’s currently 30% off. While there are trendier spring shoes, this just goes to show that sometimes you really can’t beat the classics, especially when they’re on sale.

Holmes’s outfit is already perfect, and it takes very little effort to recreate at home. (How amazing is the stark white against the more relaxed tan on the pants?) We’d encourage you to get creative with your styling, though. Why not switch up the colors and do a white button-down with rich blue barrel-leg jeans? Or how about a lady jacket and a sleeveless spring dress? Maybe a white T-shirt, a denim jacket, and a full floral skirt? It really doesn’t get much more versatile than white flats. No matter what you’re planning to wear this spring—trendy pieces or your usual capsule wardrobe—follow Katie Holmes’s lead and you’ll be able to style your way out of any fashion conundrum.
