The college wrestling action continues on Friday afternoon with the quarterfinal round of the NCAA college wrestling championships.
It was an impressive first day of action from the NCAA college wrestling championships for Penn State, as the Nittany Lions went without a single defeat, going 20-for-20 in their matches on Thursday. Penn State currently leads the college wrestling championships team race at 39 points.
Just behind the Nittany Lions is Nebraska at 28 points, Oklahoma State at 27 points, and Iowa, Minnesota, and Ohio State, who are in a three-way tie for fourth at 18 points. Will anyone be able to catch up to mighty Penn State? Find out this weekend, starting on Friday.

Also noteworthy from Thursday’s action is the fact that two former national champions, Richard Figueroa out of Arizona State, who is the national champ from 2024, and Andrew Alirez out of Northern Colorado, who was national champion in 2023, both fell in their second-round matchups. Their tournaments are not over but they will need to make it out of the consolation bracket, no easy feat.
Meanwhile, former Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson out of Minnesota did what everyone expected him to do, and that was to dominate his second-round matchup, an impressive feat considering he was facing an All-American in Rutgers’ Yaraslau Slavikouski.
