Liberty won the Conference USA Championship title game over Jacksonville State 79-67 to secure their trip to the NCAA Tournament. Kaden Metheny came up big in the win with 21 points, making it two straight games he reached the 20-point mark. Oregon will try to slow him down in the Round of 64 matchup. The Ducks had won eight games in a row prior to their Big Ten tournament quarterfinal loss to Michigan State.
The Flames have only advanced out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament one time in six appearances, and this is their first time taking part in March Madness since 2021. Taelon Peter leads the team with 13.9 points per game, but they will spread the scoring workload around as four players all average double figures for Liberty.
Nate Bittle’s size might present problems for opponents in the East Region. At 7 feet tall, Bittle will have an advantage over the Flames defenders, and as long as he stays out of foul trouble, the Ducks center should be able to put up similar numbers to his last time out, when he scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the Spartans.
