YouTuber MrBeast has announced details of his upcoming videos on social media, saying he “can’t wait” to upload them.
Newsweek has contacted MrBeast for comment via email outside regular working hours.
Why It Matters
Jimmy Donaldson, 26, who is known professionally as MrBeast, holds the record for the most subscribers on YouTube—375 million as of press time. In January 2022, Forbes ranked Donaldson as the highest-earning content creator, with an estimated annual income of $54 million, which is drawn mostly from ads on his YouTube videos.
In early 2012, the then-13-year-old YouTuber began posting videos on the platform, with his page mostly consisting of Minecraft and Call of Duty play videos, and his account began to gain traction in the mid-2010s.
Over time, his content has evolved into grand-scale giveaways and extreme challenges—with recent uploads including videos such as “Last to Leave Their Circle Wins $500,000” and “I Spent 100 Hours Inside the Pyramids“—and he has faced criticism over these types of videos.
What To Know
On Wednesday, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, Donaldson wrote: “I have a pilot living in a $2,500,000 private jet and if he doesn’t leave for 100 days he keeps it, a cop/criminal in a jail and if they don’t leave for 100 days they win $500,000, and someone living in a gym until he loses 100 pounds for $500,000. Can’t wait to upload these.”
The response to the post was mixed. While many users shared ideas for similar challenges or asked to be “locked” in places for money, others took issue with the content.
“You should put a liberal and a conservative together and see if they can survive 100 days living together,” one user wrote, while another said, “Can you lock me in a library for $500,000?”
A commenter wrote: “You are filming Hunger Games irl. This is a bit insane.” Another added: “Brother you have lost the plot. you went from feel-good content to youtube Guantanamo Bay.”
Donaldson is no stranger to criticism or scandal. In 2024, a former producer on his channel sued him over allegations that she had not been paid overtime while working for him. Meanwhile, multiple employees were fired from Donaldson’s company following a three-month-long investigation into sexual misconduct and inappropriate workplace conduct.
Still, these scandals do not appear to have hurt Donaldson, who has continued to enjoy significant growth in spite of the spate of negative headlines.
What People Are Saying
One X user replied to Donaldson’s post: “You’ve got me sitting at home and not leaving until these come out.”
Another wrote: “Find a classroom of low performing high school seniors. Give each $$$ if they don’t leave the room until they have become proficient at math.”
A commenter added: “Locking people in extreme challenges for views feels more like exploitation than entertainment, no matter the payout.”
What Happens Next
It remains to be seen when Donaldson will upload the videos as he did not specify a date in his post.
