Gal Gadot’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Monday was overshadowed by protests, as demonstrators clashed over the Israeli actor’s political stance. The event, to honor her with a star on Hollywood Boulevard, became a scene of tension between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli demonstrators.
A video shared by Variety showed the moment security and police officers intervened as the protests grew louder. Chants and signs made it clear that Gadot’s Hollywood milestone was taking place amid heightened emotions over the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
Star Ceremony Overshadowed by Tensions
The 38-year-old Israeli actress, who gained global fame with her portrayal of Wonder Woman, was joined by family, friends, and industry colleagues for the ceremony outside Funko Hollywood. The event, however, was disrupted when activists gathered to express their views on her public support for Israel.
Demonstrators from both sides held up flags while chanting slogans. Some signs read “Standing with Israel,” while others displayed images of individuals taken hostage or killed by Hamas. This led to an escalating confrontation that required police intervention.
The Los Angeles Times reported that at least one protester was escorted away by authorities, though no arrests were immediately confirmed.
Gadot’s Stance and the Backlash
Gadot has long been vocal about her support for Israel, including her past service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and public statements backing the country. In a 2021 Instagram post, she wrote, “My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people,” expressing solidarity with Israel amid the conflict with Hamas.
During her speech at the ceremony, Gadot made no direct reference to the protests but focused on her appreciation for the honor.
“I’m just a girl from a town in Israel,” she told the crowds at the ceremony. she said, as quoted by ABC7. “I could never imagine such a moment. I never dreamt of becoming an actress, and I never knew that these things are possible.”
Hollywood’s Increasingly Political Landscape
The protests surrounding Gadot’s star ceremony highlight how Hollywood remains a battleground for political and international conflicts. Other celebrities, including actors and musicians, have faced backlash over their positions on the Israel-Palestine issue, with calls for boycotts and counter-protests becoming more frequent.
As for Gadot, she has remained steadfast in her position despite the controversy. In an interview with Variety, she said: “I am all about humanity…I know what I’m advocating for. I am praying for better days for all. I want everybody to have good life and prosperity, and the ability to raise their children in a safe environment.”
