British actress Aimee Lou Wood, who stars in the third season of The White Lotus currently airing on HBO, says she may be able to pull off a perfect US accent, but nobody ever mistakes her for American due to her teeth.
Wood told The Sun newspaper the show’s creator Mike White wanted her to stick with her northern English tones for the show in which she plays Chelsea, the much younger lover of Rick, played by Walton Goggins.
She said: “I can do an American accent. But Mike just wanted my Manchester one. I did one tape in American and one in my own. And he said, ‘Let’s do Manchester.’”
She added nobody would ever mistake her for an American, sharing:

“It’s the teeth! No Americans have my teeth. I think that genuinely is one of the things.
“I played an American in a play in Chicago and afterwards this guy in the bar, he was talking to me and he went: ‘I knew it. I knew it. Your accent was great but I knew you weren’t American. You just don’t look American.’”
In the same interview, Wood shared that, although she filmed nude scenes for the series, these weren’t as intimidating as sitting around poolside in a bikini. She said: “I was more worried about just being around the pool because I feel like that’s when you’re thinking more about how you look.”
Wood previously said that filming the third season of the hit show on location in Thailand, which meant living out of The Four Seasons Hotel in Thailand for seven months, was akin to taking part in a social experiment.
Wood, whose breakthrough role came in Netflix drama Sex Education, told The Guardian newspaper that being ensconced in The Four Seasons hotel for seven months without a break wasn’t always good for her.
“Living in a hotel, that we also film in? It was like a social experiment.
“In a way I will never, ever forget. I will never have an experience like that again. It was so extreme. So the fun bits were unbelievable, so special. The ocean, the landscape, it was majestic. Mike [White, the director] is a genius. Everyone involved is amazing, it’s just the circumstances are quite extreme.”
She remembered: “One day, I was having my hair done and Miia [Kovero, the hair and makeup artist] was, like, ‘You need to go home. I don’t know who I’m talking to any more, Aimee or Chelsea.’ I’d completely abstracted. Everyone becomes their character to an extent, but I didn’t even know who I was.”
