The Suns have been one of the most disappointing teams of the season, heading into Sunday with a 31-36 record and as the Western Conference’s No. 11 seed. That means if the season ended today, Phoenix would not even qualify for the Play-In Tournament, an almost hard-to-believe notion considering how much top-end talent the Suns boast, including the likes of Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker. That’s without even mentioning the team also has a championship-winning head coach in Mike Budenholzer.
The Suns are 4-6 in their last 10 games, although they are coming off a win in their last outing, a 122-106 victory over the Sacramento Kings in which Booker and Durant combined for 44 points. Point guard Tyus Jones also chipped in 20 points and four assists for Phoenix in the victory.
The Lakers, meanwhile, were headed down a great path after the unfathomable mid-season Luka Doncic acquisition but have slowed down of late, in large part due to injury to LeBron James. Los Angeles has lost four games in a row, including most recently falling 131-126 to the Denver Nuggets despite 37 points, eight rebounds, and 13 assists from Austin Reaves.
The good news for Los Angeles fans is that James is reportedly getting closer to a return.
