Higgins will now remain in Cincinnati for the foreseeable future as the team chases a Super Bowl title.
It has been a long process for the two sides to reach this point but the front office understood how important Higgins was to the team. The Bengals slapped the franchise tag on Higgins before NFL free agency began so the two sides could continue to negotiate a contract extension.
That decision seems to have worked out as a deal was reached. Now with Higgins back in the mix, the Bengals can move forward without this distraction hanging over their heads.

Quarterback Joe Burrow has been very outspoken about his desire for Higgins to remain in Cincinnati. Burrow also said he would do whatever he could to help the team bring the star wide-out back to town.
“I know that I’m going to do what it takes to get him back and so is he,” Burrow said. “We’ve had those talks. Those are going to be offseason discussions. But I think we’re excited about that opportunity.”
Burrow has taken a more vocal approach to the roster moves and it has seemed to pay off. The star quarterback understands that the Bengals can’t let star players leave the organization, otherwise, it sets a bad precedent.
“Whenever a great player leaves you wish you could have found a way to keep him,” Burrow said. “You don’t want to make a living out of letting great players leave the building. And I think that’s why you gotta do everything you can to get those deals done early.”
With Higgins and co-star Ja’Marr Chase, the Bengals have one of the more explosive offensives in the NFL. This team is looking to get back to the postseason and believes that they have a good chance of contending.
Only time will tell if the decision to pay two wide receivers a ton of money will work out. But Cincinnati now has the band back together to go on another potential run.
