What was found in an Ikea bag discarded at a park in the United Kingdom left viewers heartbroken and became “infuriating” for the animal rescue organization.
A rescue and rehoming organization known on TikTok as @kitty.kat.rescue shared in a February 8 video the devastating news about four 10-week-old kittens found abandoned at a park in Essex.
“A close contact of ours from another cat rescue messaged us asking for help after she found four kittens dumped in a zipped-up Ikea bag,” a representative told Newsweek via TikTok. “What’s even more infuriating is she had an email the week before from the owner asking if there was any room in the rescue for these kittens.”
The rescues stay in touch with each other often asking for help when they are at capacity or in need of urgent placements. Kitty Kat Rescue jumped in after hearing about these kittens being left in the bag, especially since the rescue organization was overflowing with 65 cats, just as many shelters are experiencing.
“She had to crate them in her hallway as she had no room whilst urgently messaging around for any help available in the rescue world,” the representative said.
Despite the horrific circumstances, the kitties were luckily found. The rescue believes they would have died from suffocation if not.
One of the rescue’s fosterers became free and stepped in to house the kittens until they could find forever homes, and they all have been adopted since.
The rescue stressed the importance of supporting local rescues as places are at or over capacity.
New data from Cats Protection, the U.K.’s leading cat welfare charity, revealed a 34 percent increase in cat abandonment cases. Cats are averaging 39 days spent in the charity’s care before being adopted.
“Rescues are absolutely overflowing with cats and kittens and stories like this are why we urge people to neuter their cats to prevent unwanted pregnancies,” the rescue organization said.
Kitty Kat Rescue is a small rescue group relying solely on donations. The organization is focused on finding forever homes for the cats, while also helping to provide funds for medical bills. Their focus is currently on raising money for two cats who were diagnosed with Feline infectious peritonitis, or FIP, which is a viral disease caused by a feline coronavirus affecting both wild and domestic cats, a WebMD article stated.

Heartbroken about the potential outcome for the innocent kittens, the TikTok video amassed over 18,700 views and 2,113 likes as of Thursday.
“People are so cruel I will never understand,” said a viewer.
A second asked: “They are so cute how could someone dump them.”
Another added: “Thank u for rescuing & giving these cats shelter.”
