Michael Fassbender and sunglasses are always a winning combination, which means the new Black Bag movie—opening in theaters this weekend—is almost certainly worth a watch.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh, with a screenplay by David Koepp (who also collaborated with Soderbergh on the 2022 Max original movie Kimi starring Zoe Kravitz, and the recent 2025 horror movie Presence), Black Bag is a spy thriller starring Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as elite spies who also happen to be a married couple. When Blanchett’s character, Kathryn, is suspected of treason, Fassbender’s character, George, is forced to choose between his loyalty to his wife and his loyalty to his country. (Who would pick patriotism over Cate Blanchett?!)
Also starring Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan, Black Bag sounds like a tense, high-stakes espionage thriller. Here’s what you need to know about where to watch Black Bag, and when we expect to see the Black Bag movie on streaming.
Where to watch the 2025 Black Bag movie:
The Black Bag movie will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. nationwide on Friday, March 14. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Black Bag is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Is the Black Bag movie streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?
Black Bag is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video, and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that, in the U.S., the film is a Focus Features release. Focus Features is a subsidiary of Universal Studios, and almost all Universal movies go to the Universal-owned streaming platform, Peacock.
You will be able to purchase Black Bag on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Black Bag on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription. If you want to watch Black Bag movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Peacock.
When will Black Bag be streaming on Peacock?
Black Bag is not yet streaming on Peacock. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Black Bag streaming on Peacock eventually, but we’re not sure when. Another Focus Features/Universal release, Conclave, was released on digital after about one month in theaters, and it began streaming on Peacock on December 13—about a month-and-a-half after opening in theaters, and about two weeks after releasing on digital.
If Black Bag follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital by mid-April 2025, and streaming on Peacock around late April or early May 2025. However, other Universal movies have been pushed to digital after just two-and-a-half weeks in theaters, so you might see Black Bag online even sooner.
This is all speculation. If you want to watch the 2025 Black Bag movie right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
