PARIS — A key adviser to France’s permanent representative to the European Union, Jean-Noël Ladois, is poised to take over as French President Emmanuel Macron’s top international spokesperson, according to three people with direct knowledge of the plans.
Ladois became a familiar face in the corridors of power during his stints in Brussels, which included a posting as the French representation’s spokesperson from 2019 to 2023. In that role, he briefed journalists on France’s positions throughout the Brexit negotiations and the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
He’s served as a top aide to France’s ambassador to the EU, Philippe Léglise-Costa, since December.
Ladois has also held jobs in Geneva, New York and Paris, where he worked at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ladois is expected to start work next week. He’ll take over from Anastasia Colosimo, who joined the Elysée in 2023 and was known in media circles for her candor as well as her biting — and sometimes combative — language. The 34-year-old is set to start work for the infrastructure company Ellipse Projects.
“I don’t come from the world of communications and I’m going back to my former activities,” said Colosimo in an interview with the French daily L’Opinion, adding that she was approached by the founder of Ellipse to join the company.
The French presidency declined to comment, while Ladois did not immediately respond to calls from POLITICO.
The choice of a European expert as Macron’s new international spokesperson illustrates just how focused the Elysée is on European affairs, with U.S. President Donald Trump ready to pull back American commitments to Western Europe’s security.
The French president has repeatedly said he wants to push Europe toward more autonomy in what he has described as a “strategic wake-up call” after Trump’s return to the White House.
