A sibling rivalry may have gotten the best of Mark Consuelos on Live with Kelly and Mark on Wednesday.
During this morning’s host chat, Consuelos and Kelly Ripa discussed his older brother, whom Consuelos said is an “overachiever.” Ripa, who noted that Consuelos’ brother is a doctor, doubled down on her husband and co-host’s description, and shared what a barbecue at his brother’s home is like.
“He’ll, like, stuff a pig, and inside the pig he’s got, like, geese. Ducks. And inside the ducks, there are chickens. It’s like the weirdest Russian nesting dolls you’ve ever seen. It’s like a food Russian nesting doll,” she shared.
Consuelos acknowledged that his “very smart” brother attended Princeton University, and “lorded over [them] for years.” However, Consuelos got the chance to get back at him while working on the political comedy Alpha House.
“They asked us to speak at Princeton University, and so I said yes, I’m going to go speak there,” he recalled. “So I get down there and I call him up. I said, ‘Hey, Mike.’ He said, ‘Hey, man, what’s going on?’ I said, ‘Guess where I am.’ I said, ‘I’m at Princeton University.’ He goes, ‘What are you doing there?’ I go, ‘I’m speaking here today at this big room.’ It was beautiful, with all the political science majors.”
Consuelos continued, “I said, ‘Remind me, have they ever asked you to come back and speak at Princeton University?’”
After his brother admitted “they haven’t” asked him to return and speak, Consuelos alerted him to “some noise” near him.
“I put the phone over to this copy machine,” he added, mimicking its noises. “I said, ‘Guess what they’re doing.’ I said, ‘They’re printing me out an honorary degree.”
Consuelos and Ripa pointed out that his brother was not amused by the bit. Consuelos said, “He goes, ‘Well, you know, to be official, when you graduate from Princeton, you gotta walk through these gates.’ I said, ‘Hold on. [I’ll] call you back.’ So we get the degree, and we walked through the gates, and I send a picture and I go, ‘Done!’”
Amid laughter, Ripa exclaimed, “Mark was like, ‘What’s the big deal?’”
This wasn’t the last of Consuelos messing with his brother, as he then “got to play a doctor on a TV show.”
“And I called him up. I’m like, ‘Hey, what is it about this malpractice insurance? I don’t have any of that and I’m making tons of dough,’” he quipped. “He was very upset.”
However, karma reached Consuelos shortly after, just ahead of Live‘s “Stump Mark” segment, when he noticed a wardrobe malfunction.
Ripa asked Consuelos, “Wait, did anybody notice that?”
Consuelos conceded, “No… my fly was down the whole time. That was my brother getting me back.”
Ripa replied, “Yeah, see that? He karmically got you back.”
