In their latest collaboration, BEAMS PLUS and innovative Japanese clothing label dip have released a new collection that centers on garment dyed nylon fabrics, highlighting the unique effects of dip’s signature process. The seven-piece range reimagines everyday essentials including a military coat, a suit jacket, a t-shirt, cargo pants and more made in the durable synthetic material.

In an Instagram announcement, BEAMS PLUS describes the central principles of the collaboration citing the importance of “individual personalities” and “recognizing the value of masterpieces from the past while modernizing materials and patterns.” The collection’s references to historical design lean heavily into 20th-century military apparel, as demonstrated by the beret, zip-up liner jacket, tactical pants and utility vest. Elsewhere, the collection offers a unique oversized tee and a jacket reinterpreting BEAMS’ classic suit jackets in crinkled nylon.

Dubbed “The Dark Collection,” the garments are shown in darkened hues, allowing the distinct fabric to remain in focus. The garment-dyed nylon manifests in deep black, tan khaki and washed gray, staying within a pared-back realm of neutrals. Throughout the range, antique brass hardware including snap buttons and zippers enhances the worn-in effect of the textured fabrics.

Marking the fifth collaboration between BEAMS PLUS and dip, founder Shigehiko Taguchi has been in dialogue with BEAMS for roughly 25 years. After BEAMS PLUS’s first year in business, Taguchi joined the brand in 2000 as a product advisor, a role he occupied until 2006. His label dip was established on the same year as BEAMS PLUS, mainly exploring “functional design” and “unique coloring.”
