Wendy Williams, the former daytime talk show host known for her outspoken personality, has been hospitalized amid reports of her ongoing health struggles, casting doubt on her scheduled appearance on The View this week.
Williams, 60, was expected to make a long-anticipated return to daytime television as a guest on The View, marking her first appearance on the show in years. However, new developments indicate that she has been hospitalized in New York after a troubling incident involving a note she reportedly dropped to paparazzi.
Williams’ Health Challenges and Hospitalization
Williams has faced several health challenges in recent years, including lymphedema and Graves’ disease. More recently, her medical issues have been compounded by cognitive concerns.
The documentary Where is Wendy Williams? which first aired in February 2024, revealed that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, conditions that impact speech, comprehension and overall cognitive abilities. Williams confirmed the diagnosis publicly in the same month, CBS reported.
Police were called to her assisted living facility on Monday after she reportedly dropped a note out of her window that read: “Help! Wendy!!” for photographers below. A 911 wellness check was conducted at the facility, and officers arrived to find her calm and composed.
She was not restrained and walked to the waiting ambulance with assistance from officers. The NYPD treated the incident as a routine service call and confirmed there is no active investigation.
Williams has been outspoken about her frustrations with her living situation and legal guardianship, which was put in place in 2022 after her finances were frozen due to concerns of financial mismanagement. In a January interview with The Breakfast Club, she said: “I feel like I am in prison.” She also denied having cognitive impairments.
She described the assisted living facility as isolating and inappropriate for her needs. “I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s,” she said. “There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor.” She also expressed frustration about restrictions on her movement, saying: “I can’t even leave [to] take a walk” and “visit family members.” Williams went on to call her experience “emotional abuse.”

Williams’ planned guest appearance on The View was a highly anticipated moment for both her and her fans. The syndicated talk show, co-hosted by Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, was set to feature Williams in an exclusive interview about her health, career, and personal struggles.
Williams last appeared on the ABC talk show in 2019, when she candidly discussed her divorce and personal challenges. Since then, she has largely stayed out of the public eye as speculation about her health and well-being has continued.
With her recent hospitalization, however, uncertainty remains over whether she will be able to make the scheduled appearance. Neither ABC nor Williams’ representatives have released a statement regarding any changes to the show’s lineup.
