EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) is the latest big name added to the cast of Showtime’s new drama series Dexter: Resurrection, which chronicles a new chapter for Michael C. Hall’s serial killer Dexter Morgan.

In a high-profile guest-arc, he will play Al. The character, who shares Kansas City native Stonestreet’s Midwestern background, is believed to be a serial killer. He is set to appear in four episodes, I hear. Stonestreet joins other big names tapped for arcs/guest starring stints on Dexter: Resurrection as rumored serial killers, including Krysten Ritter (Mia) and Neil Patrick Harris (Lowell).

In addition to Hall, the main cast of the Dexter followup, which has been filming in New York since January, includes David Zayas, James Remar, Jack Alcott, Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa and Emilia Suárez.

Watch on Deadline

Dexter: Resurrection is set for a summer launch on Paramount+ with Showtime. It will follow the recent prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, whose February season finale hit a streaming high with 2.68M global viewers.

Clyde Phillips executive produces Dexter: Resurrection and returns to serve as showrunner. Hall also serves as executive producer along with Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, with Marcos Siega serving as producing director. Monica Raymund is set to direct four episodes with Siega directing six episodes for the series. Dexter: Resurrection is produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Best known for his two-time Emmy-winning role as Cameron Tucker on Modern Family, Stonestreet most recently can be seen starring as the Mad Santa on Disney+’s The Santa Clauses series, for which he received his fourth Emmy nomination for Supporting Performer. He also guest-starred as lan Osofsky on American Auto and hosted The Toy Box reality series. Stonestreet is repped by Thruline, CAA and Felker Toczek.
