Is backstreet back? The Backstreet Boys, boy band non pareil of the ’90s and 2000s, will play a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere this summer, but singer Brian Littrell‘s son Baylee will also be taking the stage in a massive way: he just made it onto American Idol. With an original song, no less.
Baylee is 21 (sorry, where did the time go?) and a college student in Georgia, but he shares his father’s passion for music. Not so much for dance, though. In his audition, Baylee Littrell explained that he once opened for his dad’s group at a giant arena show, and greatly admires his father’s success. Who wouldn’t? The BSB showed us the meaning of being lonely!
His music, however, is nothing like the stadium pop of the Boys. The Young Littrell accompanied himself on an acoustic guitar and seems to be leaning country, and impressed all three judges. Luke Bryan asked the other Brian to come in and harmonize with his son and you have never seen a prouder dad.

Baylee is the only child of Brian and Leighanne Littrell, and the family have performed together on Littrell’s family Christmas albums.
At the audition, Bryan joked that, unlike fellow judge Carrie Underwood, he did not grow up with Backstreet Boys posters taped to the walls of his room. His loss! I have a Spice Girls poster, framed, in my bathroom at this very moment, and any time guests come over they ask “why are there only four Spice Girls on that poster?” and I say “do you not remember that they kept going for an album after Ginger went solo?” and they say “I guess I forgot” and we all learn a little something.
