Jones spent his first year with the Vikings in 2024 after spending the first seven years of his career with the Green Bay Packers.
In his first year in the Twin City, Jones started all 17 games with the Vikings. He finished his first year rushing for a career-high 1,138 yards on 255 attempts, his most since 2019, 408 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns.
These impressive numbers come after the Packers cut him at the end of the 2023 season. His release from the Packers was mostly a financial decision, as he would have counted for $17.5 million against the salary cap and Green Bay wanted him to take a pay cut.
Instead, Jones opted to find another squad and ended up with the Vikings.
According to Spotrac, Jones’ average annual value was set at $5.6 million. His projected contract is for one year, $5,571,612. Spotrac predicted Jones to sign another ‘prove-it’ type of deal, similar to the one he inked last offseason with the Vikings.
The Vikings had a regular season to remember, although it didn’t end the way they had hoped. However, their regular season was magical as they finished with a 14-3 record, marking their most wins in a season since 1998.
However, their season ended in the wild-card round, when they lost to the Los Angeles Rams. They had only lost four games all season long, and it came to the same opponents, the Detroit Lions and the Rams.
The 30-year-old was a fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the No. 182 overall pick out of the University of Texas at El Paso. In his career, he was named to the 2020 Pro Bowl and was the NFL rushing touchdowns co-leader in 2019.
Although Jones is now back with the Vikings, he was being considered by many teams, including the Dallas Cowboys. Nonetheless, the Vikings get their star running back. With plenty left in the tank, we should see more of the same from Jones in 2025.
