The heartbreaking moment of a canine paying his respects to his furry friends he’s made who crossed the rainbow bridge left the internet “sobbing.”
A New Hampshire doggy daycare was brought to tears after employees spotted a Bernese mountain dog, Finn, taking a special interest in a wall. This wall features a painted rainbow with photos hung on it, a symbol of the rainbow bridge that honors the dogs in their care who have passed.
The woman who spotted him, Andi, posted the bittersweet moment on February 12 to her TikTok account @shutupndance24. In the clip, Finn sat below the wall. He held his head high, admiring the photos and occasionally barking. It’s as if he knew the wall was in memory of those dogs. He was mourning his friends.
“Finn has been attending daycare at the facility for years now, but the pictures on the rainbow bridge have grown within the past year of dogs he knew,” Andi told Newsweek via TikTok.
She said Finn won’t do this every time he comes to the doggy daycare, but it happened several days over a few weeks. She started recording him one day after noticing him staring at the wall for most of the morning.
“Toward the end of the video you can hear parts of a discussion a coworker and I were having trying to debunk his behavior,” she said.
In a follow-up video, Andie said she estimates he knew about 14 other pets who now have an honorary place on that wall. His behavior led many to believe that dogs do grieve and remember.
An article from the American Kennel Club reported that dogs can experience behavioral changes following the passing of another canine. Some signs a dog is grieving a furry friend include lack of appetite, lethargic behavior, searching for a companion dog, becoming clingy to the owner or withdrawing from people and other pets.
The TikTok clip, which amassed over 82,200 views and 23,000 likes as of Thursday, immediately brought people to tears.
“Finn hoping his friends can hear him from somewhere over the rainbow,” said a viewer, while another added: “He misses his friends.”
A third person commented: “An angel …looking at the angels.”
Someone else said: “Paying his respects. We don’t deserve them but man do they deserve everything.”
