Mike Myers made a return to Saturday Night Live as Elon Musk, with a playful nod to one of his most beloved film characters.
During the March 8 episode of the late-night sketch comedy show, hosted and musically performed by Lady Gaga, Myers, once again brought his parody of the Tesla CEO to life in the show’s Cold Open, having done the same the previous week.
The sketch lampooned the alleged tension between Musk, Marco Rubio, and other political figures that reportedly occurred at the White House recently. As James Austin Johnson‘s Donald Trump and Marcello Hernandez‘s Rubio traded jabs over Musk’s role in the administration, Myers appeared to a round of applause.
“I can’t believe this is the guy you’ve given access to the entire government. He’s not an elected official,” Hernandez’s Rubio quipped, before the on-screen Musk and Rubio continued their spat. As Johnson’s Trump stepped in to mediate, the camera zoomed in on Myers, who provided a voiceover as Musk.
“Phase one of my plan is complete: ingratiate yourself to the president and take over the media. But, was taking this job a bad idea? A lot of people seem to really hate me, like, Tesla stock is really crashing, and my personal net worth just dropped by 100 billion dollars,” Myers said, channeling an iconic gesture from his Austin Powers character, Dr. Evil, by putting his pinky to his lips.
The SNL sketch also referenced moments from a recent speech by Trump, when he addressed Congress on March 4 and boasted about his administration’s early successes.
In his speech, Trump compared himself to George Washington, the first U.S. president, stating without providing a source, “It has been stated by many that the first month of our presidency… is the most successful in the history of our nation.”
Trump later targeted his predecessor, Joe Biden, blaming him for the rise in egg prices, and listed what he deemed “appalling waste” in foreign spending, including “$8 million for making mice transgender.” (This was a point of criticism from Republican Representative Nancy Mace in a February subcommittee hearing.)
The politician also claimed the U.S. would acquire Greenland “one way or another” and outlined plans for a future mission to Mars.
Saturday Night Live airs weekends on NBC.
