The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 4 “Hide or Seek” serves up what could be called a classic Mike White moment. The HBO hit has never shied away from its use of nudity â particularly male nudity â and we get another hilariously shocking full frontal scene this week. Jason Isaacs’s Timothy Ratliff reveals himself by accident to his aghast family thanks to a combination of Lorazepam and dread. It’s a split second moment that evokes Steve Zahn‘s similar nude scene in Season 1 and that Jason Isaacs doesn’t want to necessarily revisit again.
**Spoilers for The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 4 “Hide or Seek,” now streaming on MAX**
Early on in The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 4 “Hide and Seek,” we check in on the Ratliff family’s villa. Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), and Lochlan (Sam Nivola) are up to their usual sibling antics when they’re interrupted by their mother, Victoria (Parker Posey). As it happens, Victoria is sober enough to notice that someone has been dipping into her Lorazepam. Instead of deducing that it’s her husband, currently wandering around in a drugged up stupor, Victoria questions her children.
When Piper questions why Victoria needs anti-anxiety meds at a wellness resort, she retorts that she has social anxiety about meeting new people on their planned boat trip. The Ratliffs’ social life at the “club” comes up and Timothy is suddenly overcome with the realization that soon his country club cronies will know he’s a crook.
“Everyone at the club…” he moans.
“What about them?” Victoria asks.
He doesn’t answer her question. Instead, Timothy sighs and leans back, exposing himself to his entire family. Piper and Lochlan squeal in horror and Tim adjusts his robe to cover himself back up.
When DECIDER asked White Lotus star Jason Isaacs about these scenes at the show’s press junket, he initially pretended they never even happened.
“I don’t remember filming those scenes,” he said. “I think it’s digital. I wasn’t there that day.”
Isaacs then explained what he believed The White Lotus creator/director/writer Mike White’s intention was there.
“Look, he’s trying to right the balance of how many naked women I’ve seen growing up on every television show and film,” Isaacs said. “Nudity is the thing. He uses it sometimes for comedy, sometimes for sex, sometimes the manipulation. It’s a good TV moment.”
Isaacs was quick to reiterate that full frontal nudity is “not something I’m keen on doing in my social life or in my professional life.”
“But it’s Mike White,” he said, “and it’s a great moment in the show.”
One of many great moments on The White Lotus and one that feels entirely of The White Lotus.
