WWE fans are eager to see the arrival of a former AEW star in the promotion. The good news is that fans can expect to see Rey Fenix in WWE soon.
Fenix, now a highly sought-after free agent after reportedly being granted his AEW release, is expected to draw significant interest from WWE. Speculation surrounding his departure began when he was removed from AEW’s official roster page last month.
This is a move commonly indicative of a wrestler’s release, as seen with recent departures like Miro, Ricky Starks, and Malakai Black. This release comes after reports, including confirmations from outlets like Fightful, that Fenix’s AEW contract was terminated.
Prior to this, his contract had been extended to compensate for time missed due to injury, adding nearly a year to his original term. In a media call for AEW Revolution 2025, AEW CEO Tony Khan discussed recent talent releases, including Ricky Starks and Fenix. He said,
“I do think it’s a case-by-case basis. I think everything is a case-by-case basis, and so much of life is a case-by-case basis. Philosophically, there is a change in what I’ve been doing. It felt like the right thing for the company and everyone involved at this point. That’s the thinking behind that.”
It is widely speculated that Fenix intends to reunite with Penta El Zero M as the Lucha Bros in WWE, which is reportedly keen to sign him. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported on Friday that Fenix is expected to undergo WWE medical evaluations imminently.
It was added that WWE has already begun brainstorming merchandise designs for him, suggesting that if he hasn’t signed yet, an agreement is imminent. Now, PWInsider.com has an update.
Per Mike Johnson, Fenix is expected to start with WWE after its upcoming European tour that kicks off on March 14 and lasts through March 31st. It appears he may have a spot on the WrestleMania card if this comes through.
