‘With Love, Meghan’ Gets A Shock Second Season At Netflix After Dismal Reviews

Netflix seems to be betting on the power of the hate watch, because the streamer just renewed Meghan Markle‘s widely-panned series With Love, Meghan for Season 2. Alas, we’ll have more glimpses at Markle’s sunny kitchen (which isn’t actually hers?) and more cringe-worthy exchanges with her guests to look forward to when more episodes drop this fall.

The news was announced in an email sent out by Netflix this morning with few details of Season 2, aside from the reveal that “the second season has already completed filming.” An exact premiere date has not yet been set.

Netflix also released an Instagram supercut of Markle in the kitchen chopping, cooking and snacking on her creations with the caption, “shhh… do you hear that? WITH LOVE, MEGHAN is coming back for season 2!!!”

Season 2’s confirmation comes less than a week after With Love, Meghan first debuted on Netflix March 4. The show, which consists of eight episodes, showcases Markle’s passion for lifestyle content (before her royal courtship with Prince Harry, she ran a blog called The Tig while also starring on Suits, as true fans may recall).

But it’s not just Markle picking flowers and frosting cakes — each episode she welcomes a different guest, with a lengthy Season 1 list that includes names like Mindy Kaling, Roy Choi, Abigail Spencer and Alice Waters, among others.

Unfortunately, all that star power and garden charm didn’t go too far with critics, who were underwhelmed by Markle’s show.

Decider’s own Meghan O’Keefe wrote in her With Love, Meghan review that the show “won’t make you feel like you’re watching the arrival of the millennial Ina Garten, but rather the second coming of Marie Antoinette,” adding, “As I write this, the stock market is in free fall, international tensions are fever high, innocent trans children are under attack by the politicians, the federal government is being broken down and sold for parts, measles is spreading, and the average American can’t afford eggs. A show where a prince’s wife dons an apron to collect eggs from the aesthetically cute chicken coop on her estate feels like the definition of tone deaf.”

And she wasn’t alone. The Guardian called the show “toe-curlingly unlovable,” while Variety said the series is an “ego trip not worth taking.” However, those negative reviews clearly haven’t stopped Markle from cooking up more.

With Love, Meghan Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
