After nearly thirty years, Happy Gilmore is returning to the green. Netflix announced that the Adam Sandler sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, will be released July 25. The cult classic golf comedy features original cast members Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, alongside new co-stars Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley and Scott Mescudi.
Netflix also shared a behind-the-scenes clip confirming appearances by professional golfers, including Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris.
According to Golfweek, golf legends such as Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and John Daly are also expected to appear.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Sandler announced more superstar cameos on The Dan Patrick Show, like Travis Kelce and his old friend Eminem. Sandler added, “I’ve known Eminem for a long time, and he’s a great guy. He came in and was funny as hell. I think we just hung out a day with Eminem, and he just shot and shot, and it was insane. Said a million things we can use and a million things that we’re glad we have him on tape.” Eminem, an Oscar and Grammy award winner, is sure to make a hit no matter how much time he has in the film.
Netflix also confirmed the return of the original creative team. Happy Gilmore co-writer Tim Herlihy returned to write Happy Gilmore 2, while Dennis Dugan, the director of Happy Gilmore, is returning as executive producer, and Happy Gilmore producers Robert Simonds and Jack Giarraputo are also returning. The new director for the film, Kyle Newacheck, previously collaborated with Sandler on Murder Mystery.
A photo shared on X by Golf Digest announced the film’s release date, while showing Sandler swinging while wearing his iconic Bruins hockey jersey and his signature Timberland boots. In the background, Bad Bunny appears as his caddy.
Even in the most ridiculous of plotlines, Sandler movies always seem to find a way to pull at audiences’ heartstrings. While details of the plotline have yet to be released, interviews with the cast suggest they are committed to giving fans another cult classic, which Sandler has a particular knack for.
The original Happy Gilmore is now streaming for free on Tubi.
