Following the reveal of the new King Seiko Vanac Collection, Seiko now celebrates 60 years of its iconic Prospex watch with three new limited editions: Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 60th Anniversary 600m Saturation Diver, the Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary, and the Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary.
In 1965, Seiko was informed by a professional diver that watches used at great depths frequently sustained damage. In response, the brand developed Japan’s first-ever diver’s watch, which featured automatic movement and 150 meters of water resistance.
The Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary is inspired by Seiko’s very first diver’s watch, the “62MAS” 1965 Diver. Designed under the theme of “The Great Wave,” it pays homage to the iconic woodblock print by Hokusai. This timepiece features an in-house 6R55 automatic caliber, with a three-day power reserve and up to 300 meters of water resistance.
The same inspiration continues in the Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary edition, which features a unique dial pattern and caseback adorned with the iconic wave. It specifically pays tribute to the 1968 Diver, which was Seiko’s first one-piece case hi-beat Diver’s watch with 300 meters of water resistance. A first for the model, these references are paired with a short-pitch length bracelet with micro-adjustable clasps.
Last but not least, the Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 60th Anniversary 600m Saturation Diver is possibly the most advanced model to date for the brand. As reflected in its name, which means “deep sea” in Japanese, this reference draws from the iconic 1968 Diver with a fitting blue dial, complete with a new structure. Crafted at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio, it boasts lightweight titanium construction, superhard coatings for scratch resistance and is powered by the new in-house 8L45 movement.
Priced between £1,270 – £4,130 GBP (approx. $1,637 – $5,323 USD), the Seiko Prospex 60th Anniversary Limited Edition timepieces are now available for pre-order through Seiko and will officially release in July.
