Russian state media outlets have delighted in the Trump administration’s decisions toward Ukraine, one MP telling a Kremlin propagandist that the U.S. president had been keeping all his promises about the war.
The State Duma deputy Oleg Morozov told the Russia 1 channel he welcomed the moves to pause aid for Kyiv, and described the freeze on Pentagon intelligence as “sensational.”
Why it matters
Opinions expressed on Russian television do not necessarily reflect Kremlin thinking but following weeks of uncertainty from state media about what a Trump presidency would mean for Moscow, outlets have framed the U.S. president as favoring Russian interests regarding the invasion and war launched by Vladimir Putin.
What to know
The anchor of 60 Minutes, Olga Skabeeva, outlined how CIA director John Radcliffe had confirmed that along with the pause in U.S. military aid for Ukraine reported this week, Washington had also cut intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
Radcliffe made the comments on Fox Business following British media reports about the pause which is feared will hurt Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russia’s war machine.
Skabeeva also referred to Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday in which he said the prospect of talks to end the war was imminent in the clip shared by Russia watcher Julia Davis.
Morozov said he had predicted on air last week that Ukrainian president Volodymr Zelensky would agree with Trump to exploit his country’s minerals and the U.S. leader would stop sending money and weapons without a deal.
But Morozov said he thought this would only apply to funds from the current U.S. administration but everything that former president Joe Biden had pledged would still be sent.

The Russian MP said that as far as he knew, Trump had “stopped everything” including what was supposed to go to Ukraine, “he simply turned off the spigot.”
He then said the U.S. cutting intelligence sharing, including from U.S. allies such as the U.K. was “sensational” and that Ukraine no longer had much in the way of American tools at its disposal, apart from satellite technology, which if withdrawn would deliver the final blow to Kyiv’s capabilities.
In Morozov’s view, so far, Trump “is keeping all his promises that he made publicly,” while Moscow has not conceded an inch.
He praised the president’s speech in Congress in which he did not say anything bad about Russia and neither the U.S. president nor his subordinates have dubbed Moscow the aggressor.
The exchange on Russian TV comes as the fallout continues from Zelensky’s spat with Trump in the White House last Friday, with the pause in military aid and intelligence sharing revealed days afterward.
Ukrainian military veteran Viktor Kovalenko, who produces the Ukraine Decoded Substack, told Newsweek that the cessation of U.S. military supplies would be the most detrimental event for Ukraine since the start of the war.
If the Trump administration does not end the pause, Ukraine’s forces would have to cease ground operations and would be unable to defend cities against air attacks., although Kyiv can continue long-range strikes in Russia using domestically manufactured drones, he said.
What people are saying
State Duma deputy Oleg Morozov: “Trump is keeping all of his promises that he publicly made … he is persistently delivering everything that he promised. His speech in Congress was brilliant.”
Russia watcher Julia Davis on X: “State Duma member Oleg Morozov and giddy propagandists Olga Skabeeva and Evgeny Popov rejoiced about Trump keeping and exceeding his promises, while Moscow isn’t giving an inch. They expect him to deliver even more blows to Ukraine.
Ukrainian military veteran Viktor Kovalenko: “The cessation of U.S. military supplies, a significant source of aid for the Ukrainian military, would be the most detrimental event for Ukraine during the war.”
What happens next
Despite Kremlin propagandists rejoicing at the Trump administration’s moves away from supporting Kyiv, it is unclear how long its pause of aid will last.
Meanwhile, the decision has galvanized European leaders who are meeting in Brussels Thursday to discuss their support in a summit which follows a call by Emmanuel Macron for the continent to step up its defense capabilities.
