Directed by Bill Guttentag, with a screenplay written by Guttentag, Jason Brown, and Elaha Mahboob, Rule Breakers is based on the true story of a group of girls from Afghanistan who achieved international fame when they entered a robotics competition, despite the fact that the were not legally allowed to touch computers, or even leave their own home without a male companion.
Nikohl Boosher stars as the real-life computer technician and business woman Roya Mahboob, who lead her team in the competition, and eventually went on to become the founder and CEO of Afghan Citadel Software Company, a software development company based in based in Herat, Afghanistan.
It sounds like the uplifting story we could all use right now, so here’s what to know about where to watch the Rule Breakers movie, and when we expect to see the Rule Breakers movie on streaming.
Where to watch the Rule Breakers movie:
For now, Rule Breakers will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in select theaters in the U.S. on Friday, March 7. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Rule Breakers is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Is the 2025 movie Rule Breakers streaming on Netflix or Prime Video?
Rule Breakers is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now. While it’s possible Rule Breakers may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie. Rule Breakers is not a Netflix original—it’s a small, independent film being distributed by Angel Studios, known for making faith-based films. So far, since the studio’s launch in 2021, none of Angel Studios movies have gone on to stream on Netflix. Never say never, but it’s unlikely you’ll seeRule Breakers streaming on Netflix anytime soon.
You will be able to purchase Rule Breakers on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Rule Breakers on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. Another Angel Studios movie, Cabrini, was released in theaters on March 8, and was released on digital platforms on June 25—aka, about three-and-a-half months after opening in theaters. If Rule Breakers follows a similar pattern, you might see the movie on video-on-demand in about three-and-a-half months, around late June 2025.
