England Soccer Doc ‘The New Generation’ Launching On Prime Video Next Weekend
Prime Video is spotlighting the next talented crop of England soccer stars via a feature doc launching next Saturday. England Lions: The New Generation followed the likes of fan favorite Cole Palmer, Kobbie Mainoo, Marc Guehi and Ollie Watkins as they embarked on last summer’s European Championships, which England lost in the final – its second consecutive Euro finals loss. The doc combines match footage along with behind the scenes interviews with the soccer players and their families. Produced by Banijay’s Workerbee, The New Generation is Amazon‘s latest soccer doc. The streamer has followed a wealth of different teams via its All or Nothing brand and also makes docs about players and ex-pros across all sports. Trailer can be watched above.
‘Amandaland‘ Renewed At BBC
Watch on Deadline
The BBC has given a second season to Sharon Horgan’s Motherland spin-off Amandaland. Performing well with critics and audiences, Amandaland follows the titular character as she relocates with her kids to a new town and school. Produced by Horgan’s Merman, it stars Lucy Punch and new characters played by Joanna Lumley and Derry Girls’ Siobhán McSweeney. The BBC said Amandaland’s 6.4 million viewer average per ep makes it the corporation’s second biggest comedy launch in recent years behind Ludwig. “With any new show you put out there, your main hope is to make something you love and are proud of,” said Horgan, who just struck a deal with HBO. “The extra bonus is that it’s a critical hit. But to have a loyal audience of this size is just beyond your hopes and expectations.”
