Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas had an especially passionate response to President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress.
Crockett was speaking to progressive news media outlet MeidasTouch from Congress on Wednesday when she erupted in a vulgar attack on recent Trump policies.
‘What is happening? Like, this is not America! This is a terrible nightmare!’
The congresswoman expressed anger at Trump’s dealings with Greenland, the tariffs on Mexico and Canada, and the Russian war on Ukraine in the exchange.
“This is not what we should be doing. I don’t even know why we’re fighting with Greenland. Why we fightin’ with Greenland, we fightin’ with Canada, we fightin’ with Mexico — yet we’re in love with Putin?!” she shouted.
“What is happening? Like, this is not America! This is a terrible nightmare! Somebody slap me and wake me the f**k up, ‘cuz I’m ready to get on with it!”
Trump has been floating the idea that the U.S. might purchase Greenland from Denmark to add 836,000 square miles of landmass to the country, which is more than three times the size of Texas.
Democrats have criticized the president slapping Mexico and Canada with 25% tariffs, especially after both countries responded with retaliatory tariffs that resulted in the stock market crashing slightly over two days.
Video of her response was posted to social media, where many on the left expressed approval.
Crockett has previously made headlines when she mocked a proposal by Elon Musk to return savings from the Department of Government Efficiency to Americans in the form of a $5,000 DOGE dividend. In a separate interview, she argued that Democrats needed to dumb down their messaging to reach less educated Republicans and called voters racist and selfish.
