What to know about the high-stakes Ukraine summit in London
Dozens of European leaders met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in London to discuss the security of Ukraine amid the emergence of a rift between Washington and its traditional Western allies.
European leaders reaffirmed their pledge to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces, with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer saying that Ukraine’s security was “vital to the security of every nation here and many others too.”
European Commission President She is due to present a plan to “re-arm” Europe later this week.
Starmer also announced a new £1.6 billion deal (€1.94 billion or $2 billion) to supply thousands of advanced air defence missiles to Ukraine.
Several nations present at the London meeting expressed interest in joining the “coalition of the willing” peacekeeping force so far backed by the UK and France.
The coalition would entail sending troops to Ukraine after a peace deal has been reached as a form of security guarantee against any possible future aggression from Russia.
