Against all odds, CM Punk, whose 2014 WWE departure felt like a definitive end, made a shocking return at Survivor Series 2023. Due to his heat with many people in the company, from management to wrestlers, he came back with a different mindset.
Much of his issues came with Vince McMahon, who was long gone as WWE CEO and Chairman, with Nick Khan taking his place. With creative, Punk deals with Triple H, who sparked the conversations with Punk that led to his return to the company.
He’s since plunged into heated rivalries with Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre and has openly shared his happiness with the current WWE, a stark difference from his feelings during his time under McMahon. While speaking with Daily Mail, The Undertaker discussed Punk’s return to WWE.
“I’m not around the day to day like I used to be, but every time that I have been at an event and have seen Punk, he is a truly different person,” The Undertaker stated.
“He’s very friendly, outgoing, can hold a conversation, and I see him mentoring a lot as well, which obviously makes me happy, him being one of the greats of his generation. I think there’s just a journey you have to fly through and go through in life to get to that point where you don’t sweat the small stuff anymore and you enjoy the things that you have.”
Punk got a chance to work with The Undertaker before his departure. CM Punk and The Undertaker had encounters in 2009, notably in matches at events like Breaking Point and Hell in a Cell, where they clashed over the World Heavyweight Championship.
The most significant chapter of their rivalry occurred leading up to WrestleMania 29 in 2013. A key element of this feud was Punk’s controversial use of the passing of Paul Bearer, The Undertaker’s longtime manager.
They even brought in the infamous urn that Bearer used in the early days of Taker. The Undertaker ultimately emerged victorious over Punk in the bout, extending his streak at the biggest event of the year for WWE.
