Gene Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa‘s bodies showed no sign of “external trauma.”

After the couple were found dead in their New Mexico home Wednesday, they were “transported to the Office of the Medical Investigator,” the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.

“An autopsy was performed,” the statement, obtained by The Independent Thursday, continued. “Initial findings noted no external trauma to either individual.”

The release added that “this remains an open investigation” as official autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza repeated that there weren’t any “apparent signs of foul play” but did refer to the deaths as “unusual.”

One of Hackman and Arakawa’s dogs was also found dead in the home, with two other canines surviving — one inside the house and one outside.

Arakawa and the deceased dog, notably, were found in a bathroom with “pills scattered” nearby.

The classical pianist is believed to have been dead “for some time” as her body showed signs of “mummification.”

Hackman, meanwhile, was “located in a separate room of the residence.”

While the late actor’s family members initially suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, TMZ claimed, a search warrant obtained by the outlet stated there were “no obvious signs of a gas leak.”

The 95-year-old “French Connection” star and his partner, who wed in 1991, were discovered by a maintenance worker.

In audio from the individual’s 911 call, he tearfully said, “Dude, they’re not moving! Just send somebody out here real quick.”

Hackman is survived by his three children with late ex-wife Faye Maltese — Christopher, 65, Elizabeth, 63, and Leslie, 58.

The youngest told Daily Mail Thursday that her late father “was in very good physical condition” and in “good health.”

However, because of Hackman’s age, she was not “terribly shock[ed]” by his passing.
