Francesca Moody Productions (FMP), the Olivier Award-winning production company behind the stage versions of Baby Reindeer and Fleabag, has signed a first-look deal with Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s Wells Street Films.
The deal runs over two years and gives Waller-Bridge’s company the first opportunity to develop FMP’s productions for television. Wells Street Films is currently under a first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
Waller-Bridge and FMP head Francesca Moody know each other well. The pair first collaborated in 2013 at the Edinburgh Fringe on the stage production of Fleabag directed by Vicky Jones. Moody went on to produce stage productions of Fleabag around the world on behalf of Jones and Waller-Bridge’s DryWrite, most recently at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
Alongside Fleabag, FMP and Moody’s credits include the stage version of Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer, which was adapted for Netflix and went on to win six Emmy awards and two Golden Globes. Fleabag also won six Emmys alongside three BAFTAs and three Golden Globes during it’s two season TV run on Prime Video/BBC.

FMP’s current theatre slate includes Weather Girl, written by Brian Watkins, directed by Tyne Rafaeli, and starring Julia McDermott. The show transfers to Soho Theatre from 5 March – 5 April 2025.
Other current and upcoming FMP projects include Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible is Going to Happen, which is traveling the Sydney Opera House, Arts Centre Melbourne, and Adelaide Festival, the 20th anniversary of An Oak Tree by Tim Crouch at the Young Vic, and How to Win Against History, the popular Edinburgh musical, which expands for a run at Bristol Old Vic from 19 June.
Moody told us she is “thrilled” to be partnering with Wells Street — a deal which she said “marks an evolution for FMP as we establish ourselves as a home for storytelling and expand the parameters of the work we make.”
“We are native to theatre however we also know first-hand how one medium can feed another, so this is an incredible opportunity for us to build on our track record and take a more holistic approach to developing shows,” Moody said.
“Our commitment remains to the artists we work with and the stories they want to tell, and we will continue to primarily develop for the stage whilst also providing an exciting pipeline of development for those artists and their stories in partnership with Wells Street. I am hugely grateful to be collaborating with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, an amazing artist and producer who I know shares the same passion I have that the theatre is often the most powerful place to start the story. And I am delighted that Wells Street are supporting this important endeavour that will allow us to continue to work with the most exciting artists, be that first time playwright or seasoned pro.”
Waller-Bridge launched Wells Street Films in 2019 with Jenny Robins. The company currently has multiple shows in development with Amazon under their overall deal, including Tomb Raider and Sign Here.
Waller-Bridge added: “We are thrilled to be partnering with FMP on a first-look deal. Francesca Moody has an incredible talent for spotting and developing new writers from theatre and shares our belief that much of the most original work we see on our televisions comes from writers who honed their skill writing for the stage. Years after collaborating on the stage play of Fleabag – which would not have happened without her – we can’t wait to work together again.”
