Now that Stranger Things is done filming and Millie Bobby Brown has a little more time on her hands, she’s seemingly started to think more seriously about some roles she’d like to take on in the future.
The 21-year-old was at the premiere of her latest movie, The Electric State, on Monday, February 24, when she talked about her interest in playing Britney Spears in a future biopic. Brown was interviewed by Access Hollywood on the red carpet event, where she was asked about her newly dyed blonde hair and if it had anything to do with her playing the ’90s pop singer.
“I mean, she is an absolute icon,” she told the outlet before she added, “I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story.” Brown also added a caveat to her desire to play Spears and said, “But that’s her story, and I am in full support of her bringing her story to life how she wants to.” She then explained that she wouldn’t want her own story told by someone else and that she would want it told in “a beautiful way.”
The actress has previously stated that she would like to play Spears during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show in November 2022.
“I want to play a real person,” she told Barrymore before she admitted, “and I think for me, Britney. [It] would be Britney Spears. I think her story, first of all, resonates with me.” She went on to explain how she feels like she can relate to the “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer and said, “I don’t know her, but when I look at pictures [and videos] of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only.”
Spears, 43, posted an indirect response to Brown’s comments about portraying her in a movie about her life on The Drew Barrymore Show via Instagram the following day. The “Toxic” singer wrote, “I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life … dude I’m not dead!!!” Despite never mentioning Brown in her post, some fans believed that the message was directed toward her.
The movie rights to Spears’ best selling 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, were purchased by Universal Pictures in August 2024. Universal announced that a biopic was officially in the works. Despite not already being attached to the project, there’s still a chance fans could see Brown in the movie about Spears’ life.
