Fans of 2018’s bizarre crime caper A Simple Favor now have news worth raising a martini to: The gang is about to reunite for A Simple Favor 2—Another Simple Favor—an equally madcap sequel.
Here’s everything we know about the film.
What’s Another Simple Favor about?
The logline teasing the follow-up promised audiences would “see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”
So Emily, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison the last time we saw her, is not only a free woman once again but has had enough time to meet and secure a new husband? Well, this is, after all, the same cinematic universe in which characters fake their deaths, falsify their identities, and drown their long-lost twins so…maybe we shouldn’t be that surprised. Let’s just agree to sit back and enjoy the entirely improbable revelations, sun-soaked locations, and extravagant costumes—preferably with a cocktail in hand.
Here are some first look images:
Who’s returning from the original A Simple Favor cast?
On March 27, 2024 it was confirmed that both Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick would be teaming up with the original thriller’s director, Paul Feig, for the sequel to A Simple Favor, called, aptly, Another Simple Favor. Filling out the ensemble? Almost all of the other major players from its predecessor, including Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Aparna Nancherla, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack.
Meanwhile, Nine Perfect Strangers’ Jessica Sharzer, who penned the first film, is back, too, collaborating on the new screenplay with both Feig and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island).
Who is joining the cast?
The franchise is adding some extra star power with the addition of Allison Janney, Alex Newell, and the actor Michele Morrone (whom you may recognize from Lively’s Instagram) who plays Emily’s hunky Italian fiancé Dante. Newell stars as Vicky, who looks to be a member of Emily’s bridal party.
Janney’s role is unclear as of yet (her character’s name isn’t listed on IMDb), but she looks awfully suspicious in her cameo in the trailer.
When will A Simple Favor 2 be released?
A Simple Favor 2 will stream on Amazon Prime on May 1.
How will Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni impact the film?
It’s unclear if the Prime team is adjusting their PR strategy given the ongoing legal battle between Lively and her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. However, director Paul Feig recently supported Lively on Instagram, replying to a curious fan, “Blake has been nothing but supportive and a dream to work with. She is the best and an amazing collaborator, and I’m her biggest fan.”

Lively’s updated lawsuit claims two of her costars reported feeling “uncomfortable” on set.
Back in December, following Lively’s initial lawsuit, Feig wrote on X: “I’ve now made two movies with Blake and all I can say is she’s one of the most professional, creative, collaborative, talented and kind people I’ve ever worked with. She truly did not deserve any of this smear campaign against her. I think it’s awful she was put through this.”
