There are actors and then there are stars and then there’s Harrison Ford. The industry legend and king of deadpan humor accidentally crashed Jessica Williams‘s, big moment at the SAG Awards, and their interaction about it was just delightful.
During the introduction to the ceremony, various attendees told lighthearted, often self-deprecating anecdotes from their careers to the camera from their seats at tables—like the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards are a dinner event, unlike the theater-style Oscars—while those seated around them generally tried not to distract. Except…Ford missed the memo.
During Jessica Williams’s segment, which starts around the 1:13 mark in the video below, Han Solo casually bit into a large potato chip while looking off to the side, presumably to a screen, where he saw himself eating said chip. Looking embarrassed, he took the chip out of his mouth, but it was too late: Williams was laughing, and went off-script: “I told him to turn away!” Wordlessly, Ford scooted his chair around so he could eat his chip with his back to the camera. “Don’t look!” Williams yelled before continuing her segment.
After she finished, Ford turned back around to smile at the camera, and they had a playful shoving match. In a way, it’s the nicest thing he could have done for his co-star, ensuring that her part of the montage would probably be the most-replayed. Because who doesn’t want to watch Harrison Ford eat his chip?
Ford, of course, had lots of “looking away” acting experience to draw on in the moment, having shut his eyes in the climactic moments of Raiders of the Lost Ark so that he and Marion Ravenwood didn’t get dissolved by Hebrew spirits, unlike the face-melted Nazis around them.
Oh, did you watch this SAG Awards moment and not immediately and automatically think of Indiana Jones? Cool cool cool, yeah, no, me neither.
