Amid Donald Trump-imposed tariffs, Apple has announced what it calls its largest-ever spending commitment, more than $500 billion over four years, to expand facilities, build a new factory in Texas and hire 20,000 more people Stateside for R&D.
Specifically, Apple said, teams and facilities will expand in Michigan, Texas, California, Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina and Washington. The new 250k square-foot manufacturing facility in Houston, to open in 2026, will produce servers that support the company’s AI — Apple Intelligence — and, it said, create thousands of jobs.
Apple will double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund to $10 billion, create an academy in Michigan to train the next generation of U.S. manufacturers, and grow its research and development investments in the U.S. to support cutting-edge fields.

“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said. The announcement as U.S. tariffs on 10% of all Chinese products took effects last month. Most iPhones are manufactured in China. It also comes days after Cook and Trump met at the White House last week.
In a post on Truth Social today, Trump thanked the CEO.
“APPLE HAS JUST ANNOUNCED A RECORD 500 BILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE REASON, FAITH IN WHAT WE ARE DOING, WITHOUT WITCH, THEY WOULD’NT BE INVESTING TEN CENTS. THANK YOU TIM COOK AND APPLE!!!”
Four years ago, after Joe Biden took office, Apple committed $430 billion in investments and 20,000 jobs over five years. In 2018, during Trump’s first term, the company also said it planned to create 20,000 jobs over five years.
Interestingly, this time the entertainment business got a mention.
“The $500 billion commitment includes Apple’s work with thousands of suppliers across all 50 states, direct employment, Apple Intelligence infrastructure and data centers, corporate facilities, and Apple TV+ productions in 20 states.”
