If you are having trouble with Saturday’s Wordle, then you might be pleased to hear that Newsweek has put some tips together to help you solve the puzzle.
Wordle has been a globally beloved game since the end of 2021, when it first took off in popularity.
In November 2021, there were only 90 players, but one month later, there were over 2 million daily players, according to the statistics website levvvel.com. Per the outlet, the game went on to have 3 million daily users in early 2022.
The game was developed by Josh Wardle, a software engineer, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was originally an activity for him and his partner to enjoy.
In October 2021, he released it to the public, and only three months later, The New York Times acquired it.
It may reassure you to know that even the game’s own investor sometimes struggles to solve it.
In 2022, Wardle told Newsweek: “Well, I did create Wordle and I’m not very good at it! I’m afraid I’m not really the best.”
Wardle added: “[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning. She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts.”
Erhan Aslan, who teaches applied linguistics at the University of Reading in England, previously shared with Newsweek why Wordle is so popular.
Aslan said: “Word-based puzzles and games have been around for quite a while, and they are nothing new. What is different or new today is how and where people play games.”
“Before the digital age, word-puzzle games, particularly crossword puzzles, would usually appear in newspapers and magazines. People would do them while waiting for the bus or train, in the toilet, or just to kill time,” Aslan added.
