Volvo has teased its latest model, the ES90, a fully electric luxury sedan built on the brand’s Superset tech stack. The ES90, which will be officially revealed on March 5, 2025, is designed to continuously evolve, offering enhanced safety, connectivity and performance through advanced software integration.
At the heart of the ES90 is a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin core computing system, making it the most powerful Volvo in terms of computational capability. With a significant 508 trillion operations per second, the ES90 utilizes AI-driven active safety features, efficient battery management and real-time sensor integration to enhance the driving experience. This configuration enables Volvo to scale its deep learning models from 40 million to 200 million parameters over time, ensuring ongoing improvements to safety and performance.
The ES90 is the second model to be built on Volvo’s SPA2 platform, following the EX90. The Superset tech stack underpins all of Volvo’s upcoming electric vehicles, allowing over-the-air updates to introduce new connectivity features, safety enhancements and optimized battery efficiency. This means ES90 owners will benefit from continuous improvements throughout the car’s lifecycle.
Safety remains a priority for Volvo, with the ES90 featuring Safe Space Technology. This includes a comprehensive range of sensors — one lidar, five radars, eight cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors — paired with an advanced driver-understanding system. These features work in tandem to detect obstacles, even in darkness, and activate proactive safety measures.
“The Volvo ES90 is one of the most technically advanced cars on the market today,” says Anders Bell, Volvo’s chief engineering and technology officer. “Built on our Superset tech stack, it prioritizes safety and continuous innovation.”
