9-1-1 fans may have been disappointed to hear that 9-1-1: Lone Star was canceled at Fox last year, but series creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear have another project coming down the pipeline.

The 9-1-1 universe is expanding with a new ABC spinoff titled 9-1-1: Nashville, which has already been ordered straight to series. Deadline reports the series will be executive produced by Murphy and Minear, who also co-wrote the spinoff series with Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani. Brad Falchuck, who co-created the first two 9-1-1 series with Murphy and Minear, will also executive produce, as will 9-1-1 star Angela Bassett.

The outlet reports Murphy and Minear considered several new locations for the show, including Las Vegas and Hawaii, before settling on Nashville.

Murphy has teased the new spinoff series before.

“Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we’re actually writing, and that we hope to get on the air next fall,” he told Variety in October 2024 after Lone Star was canceled. “Now we’re going to launch a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s fun.”

“9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night,” he added. “They obviously have an appetite for that, so we’re going to give them another one that I really love.”

The cast have not yet been announced as the project appears to still be in development, but the series will likely continue focusing on the high stakes experience of being a first responder.

Raisani said he “would love” to see some of the Lone Star characters return in the spinoff in some capacity.

“I think that it will have a different tone,” he told TVInsider. “It will still hopefully feel like our DNA, but in the same way that Lone Star was different than 9-1-1 and had its own feel, I think that if we can get this right, this will have its own feel.”

For now, 9-1-1 remains the flagship of the franchise, with a new season set to air March 6. Deadline reports the show will likely be renewed for Season 9.
