When it comes to spring dress trends, there are five styles that are very obviously in…and five styles you might find yourself wearing less and less of as the weather starts to warm up.
Because with the season just around the corner, we can’t wait to start pulling out our favorite good-mood dresses from the back of the closet. After all, they’re the ideal starting base for layering during this transitional period.
That said, there are a few spring styles you might find yourself keeping in storage until they eventually come into fashion again. But if you’re in the mood—and budget—to buy something new, there are a few trends that are worth the investment right now.
Below, you’ll find some cool outfit inspo as well as our favorite trendy dresses for spring 2025.
In: Lace Dresses, Out: Crochet Dresses
One spring dress that’s already achieved It piece status? Lace dresses. Looks incorporating the delicate and playful style have been going viral on Instagram and co. for a while now, and we think it’ll only ramp up as the weather gets warmer.
There are tons of variations on the lace dress, from completely transparent to double-layered with contrasting fabric underneath. And if you’re wondering whether or not this trendy dress is suitable for daily wear…definitely! Dressing it down is super easy with an oversized T-shirt or blazer. Another simple styling trick is to wear a belt over it for a more defined silhouette.
Think of it as an alternative to the crochet dress, which we expect to have a bit of a break until the temperatures really start to soar in summer.

In: Bubble-Hem Dresses, Out: Sweaterdresses
Spring 2025 will be all about volume! Bubble-hem dresses and skirts are absolutely on trend this season. The eye-catching shape may be popular right now, but puffed-up styles aren’t exactly a newfangled idea. The dress shape was especially in fashion back in the ’80s, when it was worn time and time again by style icons like Princess Diana.
It had a comeback in the 2000s and is now making yet another appearance in the trend cycle. But this time around look for shapes that transition from a tighter bodycon top to a fuller skirt for the ultimate contrast.
As for what to leave behind? Let’s keep sweaterdresses as a winter winter staple.

In: Boho Dresses, Out: Bandeau Minidresses
The comeback of boho chic, which was already very hyped last year, is here to stay in spring 2025. So expect to see even more flowing silhouettes in light fabrics, with romantic flourishes and colorful prints.
The best part of this trend? Boho dresses are easy to style for all kinds of occasions. Pair them with casual boots and a slouchy tote on the weekends, then add heels and large bangles for an elegant wedding guest look.
They’re also so much more comfortable than the strapless bandeau minidresses that led the trend cycle last spring and summer.

In: Animal-Print Dresses, Out: Neon Dresses
While animal print is always on trend, the past few seasons have seen several in particular take over. Last spring leopard print was everywhere. This year expect to see things get even wilder with zebra, reptile, and cow prints all on the rise.
As for styling animal-print dresses, one hack is to keep the rest of the look monochrome. Neutral earth tones or basic blacks are the way to go for a more minimalist look. For the maximalists, however, go all out with opulent jewelry, bright red accessories, and XXL sunglasses.
It’ll be harder to find neon dresses this spring and summer when shopping, as they’re currently on the outs in the trend cycle.

In: Denim Dresses, Out: Velvet Dresses
The denim dress is another wardrobe basic that we’re having a new appreciation for this season. Available in a wide variety of styles, it’s a classic that works with just about any outfit combination. A midi version in a darker wash is totally appropriate for the office, especially when paired with a button-down shirt. Strapless mini or maxi denim dresses work for a night out when styled with knee-high boots, while sneakers and a looser fit will quickly become your weekend uniform.
Timeless, versatile, and comfortable, the advantage of the denim dress is obvious. From cool shirt dresses to feminine A-line cuts in all lengths, the style really knows no bounds. What’s more, denim dresses come in a variety of washes so there’s truly something to suit every taste.
Less ideal for spring, however? Velvet dresses, a fabric best suited for winter’s colder temps.
