Season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy enjoyed a nice long winter hiatus, but the hit medical drama returns soon. Here’s where, when and how to watch.
When does Grey’s Anatomy come back?
March 6, 2025! Grab your wine and popcorn, and get ready to return to Grey Sloan Memorial.
Where did Grey’s leave off?
Season 21 saw the introduction of Sophia Bush’s new character, Dr. Cass Beckman. But he first half ended on a decidedly tense note, with Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Lucas (Niko Terho) getting caught up in a convenience store robbery. Jo, who is pregnant, began bleeding, as Lucas tried to wrestle the Robber’s gun away—and it went off. As you can see in a sneak peek on Entertainment Weekly, Jo survives the incident, but someone’s on the table…coding.
When does Grey’s air?
The primetime hit began its 21st season in a new time slot at 10 p.m. on Thursdays on ABC, later than previous seasons. (You can still stream new episodes the next day on Hulu.)
Traditionally, the later a show airs, the more “adult” it’s allowed to be, as children have presumably gone to bed. “I’ll push whatever boundaries they’ll let me push. But I’ll say, the show will still be the show. If we can get a few more risqué subject matters or steamy scenes, we’ll do it. But I won’t do it just for the sake of a time slot. We’re Grey’s Anatomy, people will find us wherever we are,” show-runner Meg Marinis told The Hollywood Reporter.

In this exclusive clip, she makes a surprising reveal to Kim Raver’s Teddy that could cause quite the ripple effect.
She also hinted that climate change is one of the season-long themes, revealing, “obviously, we’re experiencing climate change so much in L.A. that it’s really been a hot topic in the writers room—no pun intended!…The topics that we tackle are relevant to the medical field. There are some stories that come in that are not as pertinent, but we’re really looking at things from the doctors’ points of view and the healthcare point of view. We did COVID from the doctors’ point of view, and we did reproductive rights from the doctors’ point of view. So when we look at topics to explore, that’s always where we’re looking.”
