The first buzzy horror movie of 2025, Companion, is now available to buy and rent on digital. What are you waiting for? Sophie Thatcher as a killer robot is mere clicks away.
Written and directed by Drew Hancock in his directorial debut, Companion stars Thatcher as a “companion robot” named Iris, who rebels against her owner, Josh (played by Jack Quaid). In her defense, he makes it easy: He brings her as his date to a remote, friend vacation trip to a cabin in the woods.
Also starring Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén and Rupert Friend, Companion enjoyed rave reviews from critics and a word-of-mouth social media campaign, both of which helped the film earn over $32.9 million at the worldwide box office so far, which is more than three times the film’s estimated $10 million production budget. Not bad!
Now Warner Bros. hopes to earn even more money from the movie with the premium digital release. Read on for all the info you need on how to watch the Companion movie online, and when we expect to see the Companion movie streaming on Max.
Where to watch the Companion movie online:
Companion will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms on Tuesday, February 18. You’ll be able to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie will cost $24.99 to buy, and $19.99 to rent. If you rent the movie, you’ll have 48 hours to view after hitting “play.”
Companion will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on April 1, 2025. The premium digital and physical releases of the movie will come with the following special features: “I Feel, Therefore I Am” with Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher, “Love, Eli” with Harvey Guillén and Lukas Gage, ” and “AI Horror” with director Drew Hancock.
Companion is not yet available on a subscription-based streaming service, but we do expect to see Companion streaming on Max eventually, because Companion is a Warner Bros. movie, and Max is the streamer owned by Warner Bros.
When will Companion be streaming on Max?
The Companion Max streaming release date on has not yet been announced yet, but we can make an educated guess based on previous releases. Joker: Folie à Deux, for example, was released on PVOD three-and-a-half weeks after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Max on December 13, a little over two months after it was released in theaters. If Companion follows a similar release pattern, you may see the movie streaming on Max around April 2025.
But that’s pure speculation. The Warner Bros. home releases have varied by title. In the meantime, you can always catch Companion by buying or renting the movie online.
