There are winter storm warnings and advisories in place across 21 states, with up to 3 feet of snow expected to hit in some places.
Why It Matters
Freezing temperatures may pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants and older adults. Snow can disrupt travel and create dangerous driving conditions, while winter storms may also cause power outages.
What To Know

A winter storm warning means snow, sleet or ice is expected, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
These are issued when “confidence is high that a winter storm will produce heavy snow, sleet or freezing rain and cause significant impacts.”
A winter weather advisory is used to tell people that they should take caution because wintry weather is expected.
“Light amounts of wintry precipitation or patchy blowing snow will cause slick conditions and could affect travel if precautions are not taken,” the NWS says.

NWS Caribou said: “Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute.
