The United States and Israel are aligned on how to handle the situation in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday as U.S. President Donald Trump’s chief diplomat kicked off a tour of the Middle East amid concerns over American initiatives on the war-torn enclave.

“President Trump and I are working in full cooperation and coordination between us. We have a common strategy,” Netanyahu told a press conference alongside U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who will also travel to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia on his trip.

“We will ensure Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel,” Netanyahu said, before talking about the “unequivocal support” from the U.S.

Netanyahu said he spoke with Rubio about Trump’s “bold vision” for Gaza’s future, and how to make it become a reality.

Earlier this month, Trump said the U.S. would take over the Gaza Strip and turn it into a  riviera. Under the U.S. president’s plan, the population would be transferred to neighboring countries. Arab countries have already voiced their opposition to the proposal.

For Rubio, this idea took “courage and vision,” he said during the press conference. “It may have shocked and surprised many, but what cannot continue is the same cycle.”

Rubio and Netanyahu also said they discussed the situation in Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
