Dale Coyne Racing has announced veteran driver Rinus VeeKay as their new pick for the entire 2025 IndyCar season.

This move aimed to bring stability to the team after a challenging year with several driver changes, which led to inconsistent performances throughout the 2024 season. VeeKay, who hails from the Netherlands, comes with a solid track record in the IndyCar series. The team hopes that by bringing in a driver with his level of experience, they can create a more stable and promising lineup.

Dale Coyne Racing, founded in 1984 by Dale Coyne, has been part of the IndyCar scene for over three decades. The team has a history of bringing in underdog drivers and helping them secure surprising results.

Strong achievements in the past include Dale Coyne Racing’s best finish at the Indianapolis 500 in 2017, where rookie Ed Jones placed third, and securing podium finishes with drivers like Sébastien Bourdais and Justin Wilson. However, 2024 was a tough year for the team, with numerous driver changes that led to varied results.

Rinus VeeKay, whose full name is Rinus van Kalmthout, has been passionate about racing since he was a child. He started karting at the age of eight and quickly made a name for himself by winning multiple championships in the Netherlands and the Benelux region.

His performance in junior open-wheel racing is evident from his title win in the 2018 USF Pro 2000 Championship and his P2 finish in the 2019 Indy Lights series. He made his debut in IndyCar in 2020 with Ed Carpenter Racing and was named Rookie of the Year, securing his first podium at the Harvest GP. VeeKay’s breakthrough moment came in 2021 when he won the IndyCar Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, making him the youngest Dutch driver to win an IndyCar race.

Over his career, VeeKay has achieved nine top-five finishes and two pole positions. However, his 2024 season with ECR concluded with a 13th-place finish in the championship standings —his lowest position since his debut year. Nonetheless, his performance at the Indianapolis 500 remains impressive. He has an average starting position of 3.8 over five starts and has started three times in the front row.

The competition in the 2025 IndyCar field includes prominent teams like Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing, but Dale Coyne Racing aims to leverage VeeKay’s experience to consistently achieve top-10 finishes. The stability offered by his signing is expected to attract sponsors and increase the team’s visibility.

Whether VeeKay can adapt to and thrive in his new environment remains to be seen, but his potential impact on the team is a source of optimism for the upcoming season.
