A mom from Canada shared a video of her cat, Leo, acting like a dog guarding her children, and internet users can’t cope with the heart-warming footage.

The viral clip, shared on TikTok on Tuesday under the username @angelinaminichilli, shows the tabby cat sitting in the snowy road outside his home, waiting for his owner’s two children to safely get on the bus to school.

As soon as the bus driver closes the doors and the kids reach their seats, Leo sprints home to escape the frosty conditions outside.

“Your cat thinks he’s a dog and waits for the kids to get on the bus every morning,” says the caption.

Cats are known for being independent and valuing their alone time, but this doesn’t mean that they don’t love their owners. According to Whitney Veterinary Hospital cats do love us, even though they have their own subtle way of showing it.

If you want to know whether your cat loves you, pay attention to their behavior around you. Head-butting and nuzzling, purring and kneading, slow blinking, and seeking proximity to you, are all signs of affection from your fur-baby.

Other signs that your cat loves you include following you around, grooming you, bringing you “gifts,” meowing at you, and allowing you to pet them in places like their very sensitive belly, which they usually keep to themselves.

If you think your bond with your cat is not as close as you would like, you can easily boost your relationship by spending more quality time together, engaging in activities that you know they enjoy, and providing plenty of love and attention.

Dr. Jess Kirk says in a Vet Explains Pets article that patience is key when trying to win a cat’s love, and so it’s important that you allow the feline to build trust at their own pace, without forcing interactions if they aren’t ready.

The video featuring Leo quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 27.4 million views and 4.9 million likes on the platform.

One user, Rodriguez, commented: “He was trying to act like he wasn’t cold in front of the kids.”

Lili said: “He truly does do it for them because look how fast he runs back, that poor baby does not want to be out in the cold.”

Saltysiren009 added: “It’s hard being a cat dad raising 2 humans. He takes his duties seriously.”

Newsweek reached out to @angelinaminichilli for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
