Patrick Wachsberger and Legendary Entertainment’s new JV has made two key hires. Wendy Reeds has joined 193 as EVP, sales, and Ashley Stern is aboard as EVP, Head of Creative Affairs.

193 was announced in late January, with former Lionsgate exec Wachsberger as CEO. “Wendy and Ashley are two of the industry’s best and bringing them aboard at this juncture makes me even more confident about what 193 can achieve,” he said. “There is an exceptional opportunity for 193 in the global production and sales marketplace to create an industry-leading slate of premium films for audiences all over the world.”

193 will develop and produce a slate and as well as working with third parties on international distribution for completed films. It will also provide capital and be across territory sales for early-stage projects.

Reeds spent 16 years with Lionsgate, overlapping for nearly a decade with Wachsberger, who was Chairman of the studio’s Motion Picture Group. As EVP of International Sales, she oversaw the licensing of Lionsgate films for international territories. Prior to that, Reeds ran Lionsgate’s Asian sales and operations, serving as EVP of Content Sales & Distribution for Celestial Tiger Entertainment.

She said: “It is an honor to join Patrick, who has a rich and well-deserved legacy in our space, and I look forward to supporting him throughout this chapter of growth for 193.”

Stern was President of Picture Perfect Federation, the entity Wachsberger set up with French indie Federation. In that role, she exec produced The Agency and produced a film slate including Charlie Harper and the upcoming Impossible, written by Siân Heder (Coda).

Speaking about collaborating with Wachsberger and her role at 193 she said: “Together, we will meet the strong demand for high-quality independent films, working with the best talent and partners in the industry, to deliver profound, unique, and thrilling content that resonates worldwide.”
