In case you hadn’t heard, a Legally Blonde prequel is in the works at Amazon, with Reese Witherspoon at the helm. And, as of February 13, a young Elle Woods has officially been cast. (This is an appropriate time to let out a girlish, Elle Woods squeal.)
Yep, more than two decades after the film, everyone’s favorite lawyer, Woods comma Elle, is returning to our screens. The news of a Legally Blonde prequel series, called, Elle, which will stream on Prime Video, was first announced back in April 2024. A few weeks later, at Amazon’s Upfronts event, Witherspoon gave a few more details about the series—while wearing Elle’s iconic pink skirt suit, naturally. Witherspoon revealed that the series would be a prequel that followed Elle’s adventures as a high schooler back in the ’90s. Just think of the fashion!

Who’s in the cast?
On February 13, Witherspoon shared on Instagram that Lexi Minetree had been cast as young Elle Woods.
“Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods! After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle,” she wrote alongside a video where she breaks the news to Minetree. In the adorable clip, which you can watch below, the pair then calls Minetree’s mom to tell her the good news.
“When I saw her tape I thought, are we the same person?,” Witherspoon jokes.

What is the Legally Blonde prequel series about?
As we mentioned above, the prequel will follow young Elle Woods through high school.
“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series!” Witherspoon told Deadline. “Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?! I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine—along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell—for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”
When and where will it premiere?
We don’t have an exact premiere date yet, but back when it was first announced in 2024, Witherspoon told fans it was coming “next year.” Our best guestimate is late 2025. And of course, you’ll be able to stream it on Prime Video.
What’s next in the Legally Blonde universe?
And this prequel series isn’t the only thing we have to be excited about—a third film starring Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge is also in the works.

What, like it’s hard?
“Oh, it’s gonna be so fun!” Witherspoon previously said of the project. “I got to go to a meeting the other day where we talked about all the new plot points and all the characters and some returning characters and some new characters. I mean, I got so excited just in the meeting. I was like, ‘This is gonna be good.’”
Could 2025 be the year of Elle Woods? It certainly seems that way.
